Job summary

Cogent Communications seeks a Network Planning Engineer to design and optimize DWDM optical transport networks across major North American markets. You will evaluate orders, plan network augmentations, and prepare BoM/SOW documentation to support growth.

You will partner with Network Operations, Field Services, and Sales Engineering to ensure proactive provisioning, analyze traffic trends, and drive automation through planning tools. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• Experience planning DWDM 10GE, 100GE, and 400GE networks in major North American markets.
• Ability to evaluate customer orders and determine network augmentation requirements.
• Prepare BoM and SOW for complex network growth and expansion projects.
• Analyze traffic patterns to drive network growth strategies.
• Familiarity with Python for automation is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in EE/Telecom/CS or related field.

Responsibilities

• Plan and engineer DWDM networks across NA metros.
• Evaluate customer orders and determine augmentation needs.
• Prepare BoM and SOW for growth projects.
• Analyze traffic patterns to inform planning and growth.
• Drive automation through network tool development.
• Support network build-outs with cross-functional teams.
• Maintain records of capacity, inventory, and forecast.
