Job summary

By Light Professional IT Services LLC in Fort Meade, MD seeks an Optical Network Technology Planning Engineer to support our DISA team. You will develop deployment plans for the DoD's global optical transport network, detailing hardware requirements and wavelength plans for successful implementation.

The role requires experience with DWDM, ITU-T/OIF/IETF standards, and coordination with DISA operations and vendors to ensure secure, reliable communications.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years in a technical or related field.
• 2 years' experience in planning transport technologies such as Optical Transport System (DWDM), OTN/Packet switching, L1/L2 switches, legacy SONET/SDH.
• Familiarity with ITU-T, OIF and IETF standards. Knowledge of transport protocols such as ITU-T G.709, Layer 1/Layer 2 protocols, and Ethernet.

Responsibilities

• Based on government direction, assess service requirements to develop deployment plans with hardware requirements, transition plans, and Wavelength Plan routing for implementation.
• Provide in-depth engineering analysis, deployment, and transition plans of transport equipment in support of modernization efforts.
• Interface with DISA operations and implementation vendors for deployment and Wavelength Plan realization.
