Job summary

Cogent Communications is seeking a Network Planning Engineer to design and optimize DWDM transport networks across major North American markets. You will evaluate orders, plan capacity, prepare BoM/SOW documents, and drive automation to improve planning efficiency.

The role requires collaboration with Network Operations, Field Services, and Sales Engineering to ensure proactive provisioning and scalable growth. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field is expected.

Qualifications

• DWDM planning for 10GE, 100GE, 400GE in NA markets.
• Evaluate and approve customer orders; determine augmentation requirements.
• Prepare BoM and SOW for network growth projects.
• Analyze traffic patterns to guide future network growth.
• Drive automation via network planning tools.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Plan DWDM networks (10GE/100GE/400GE) across major NA markets.
• Evaluate customer orders and determine required network changes.
• Prepare BoM and SOW for growth projects.
• Analyze traffic patterns to forecast capacity and growth.
• Develop and drive automation in planning tools.
• Coordinate with Ops, Field Services and Sales Engineering.
