Job summary

Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC) in Texas is seeking a Direct Support Professional II to assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The role involves providing routine and emergency care, training, personal care, and documentation within State Supported Living Centers.

The DSP II works as part of a team under supervision, with potential to mentor new staff and lead shifts. Evening and night availability is noted; primary location is San Antonio.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent, or previous employment experience.
• Preferred: 6 months of work experience.
• Experience in writing reports.
• Experience in behavior programs for persons with intellectual developmental disabilities.
• Experience working with people who have mental health/intellectual developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Attends work regularly and may be scheduled for specific/rotating shifts, with possible overtime.
• Implements habilitation, rehabilitation, behavior management and treatment programs.
• Teaches life skills such as feeding, dressing and personal hygiene.
• Participates in development of the individual’s treatment plan.
• Observes signs of illness or adverse reactions and documents observations.
