Job summary

Department for Persons with Disabilities (DPD) in New Jersey is seeking a Direct Support Professional/ Overnight Residential Counselor to support adults with ID/DD in group homes. The role includes personal care, supervision, medication assistance, documentation, and community activities.

Hours are full-time, 3:00pm-11:00pm, five days per week with competitive hourly pay and paid training. Benefits include medical, dental, 403(b) and generous PTO. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent is required.
• A valid (non-provisional) driver’s license.
• CPR/First Aid certification or ability to meet requirements.
• Experience with ID/DD population is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Help meet the personal health, safety and welfare of residents in the group home.
• Assist and/or supervise individuals in personal care such as bathing and toileting, and participate in cleaning, cooking and life skills.
• Administer and/or assist with medication administration.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers and residents.
• Drive residents to/from day programs and community activities using agency vehicles.
• Maintain daily documentation of services provided.
• Assist with community-based activities.

Department for Persons with Disabilities (DPD) is one of the largest Catholic Charities Agencies providing care for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the United States. We are looking for dedicated, caring and compassionate people to work in our Group Homes.

Regular Salary: $20.49 per hour Mon-Fri and $21.49 per hour (shifts beginning 11PM Friday to 11PM on Sunday).

Non-work time will be paid at the base rate.

Hours: Full Time-Shift- 40 hours per week, (Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 3:00pm-11:00pm)

What’s the role of a Direct Support Professional/Overnight Residential Counselor (DSP)?

• A Residential Counselor is a direct care professional whose primary responsibility is to help meet the personal health, safety and welfare of the people living in the group home.
• You will assist and/or supervise individuals in personal care areas i.e. bathing/toileting; participate and/or supervise in cleaning, cooking and life skills.
• Administer and/or assist with medication administration.
• You must communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers and the individuals living in the homes.
• Drive residents to/from day programs, outside/within their community using agency vehicles.
• This position requires daily documentation of services provided.
• Assist with fun community-based activities

Requirements

• Be motivated to work as part of a team that acts in the best interest of our residents at all times
• Experience with ID/DD population is a plus
• This career requires HS diploma or equivalent
• A valid (non-provisional) driver’s license
• The ability to meet the physical requirements of CPR/First Aid and our emergency evacuation procedures.
