Job summary

Department for Persons with Disabilities (DPD) at Catholic Charities seeks a Direct Support Professional/Residential Counselor to help residents in our group homes in New Jersey. You’ll support personal care, safety and daily living activities plus documentation and teamwork with staff.

You’ll administer medications, drive residents to programs, and participate in community activities. Regular shifts include weekend hours with competitive hourly pay and paid training; benefits are provided for

Qualifications

• Be motivated to work as part of a team that acts in the best interest of residents.
• Experience with ID/DD population is a plus.
• Career requires HS diploma or equivalent.
• A valid (non-provisional) driver’s license is required.
• Ability to meet CPR/First Aid and emergency evacuation procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist residents with personal care, hygiene, and daily living activities.
• Supervise and participate in cleaning, cooking and life skills.
• Administer and/or assist with medication administration.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers and residents.
• Drive residents to/from day programs using agency vehicles.
• Daily documentation of services provided.
• Assist with community-based activities.

Department for Persons with Disabilities (DPD) is one of the largest Catholic Charities Agencies providing care for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the United States. We are looking for dedicated, caring and compassionate people to work in our Group Homes.

Regular Salary: $20.49 per hour Mon-Fri and $21.49 per hour (shifts beginning 11PM Friday to 11PM on Sunday). Non-work time will be paid at the base rate.

Part Time-Shift: 16 hours per week, (Saturday and Sunday 7:00am - 3:00pm)

What’s the role of a Direct Support Professional/Residential Counselor (DSP)?

• Residential Counselor is a direct care professional whose primary responsibility is to help meet the personal health, safety and welfare of the people living in the group home.
• You will assist and/or supervise individuals in personal care areas i.e. bathing/toileting; participate and/or supervise in cleaning, cooking and life skills.
• Administer and/or assist with medication administration.
• You must communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers and the individuals living in the homes.
• Drive residents to/from day programs, outside/within their community using agency vehicles.
• This position requires daily documentation of services provided.
• Assist with fun community-based activities
