Job summary

American Airlines is seeking a Manager of Drug and Alcohol Regulatory Compliance at the DFW area. The role leads the enterprise Drug & Alcohol Program, serving as the Designated Employer Representative and ensuring FAA, FMCSA, DOT compliance across testing, audits, and investigations.

You will oversee program governance, risk management, and cross-functional collaboration with Safety, Legal, and Labor Relations, driving continuous improvement and regulatory excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
• Minimum 5 years in DOT-regulated Drug & Alcohol compliance or equivalent.
• At least 3 years in a leadership role managing people, programs, or processes.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the DER and primary regulatory escalation point for the enterprise Drug & Alcohol Program.
• Ensure compliance with FAA, FMCSA, DOT, and company Drug & Alcohol requirements (e.g., 49 CFR Part 40, 14 CFR Part 120, 49 CFR Part 382).
• Interpret regulatory requirements, assess risk, and take compliant actions with documentation.
• Oversee testing programs including random, pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, and return-to-duty cases.
• Lead regulatory audits, inspections, investigations, and corrective actions.
• Manage case management, including policy violations and return-to-duty follow-ups.
• Monitor regulatory developments and update programs and procedures accordingly.
• Manage third-party vendors (labs, MROs, SAPs) and data quality.
• Analyze program metrics and establish QA controls to improve audit readiness and compliance.
• Collaborate with Safety, People, Legal, Labor Relations, and regulators on compliance matters.
• Lead and coach the team to maintain accountability and continuous improvement.
• Provide leadership during urgent regulatory escalations for 24/7 operations.
