Job summary

FedEx Freight is hiring for a driver/yard worker position. You will operate tractor-trailer combinations, perform pre/post-trip inspections, and handle freight with forklifts and pallet jacks.

The role includes communicating with Dispatch and customers to arrange pickups and deliveries, with emphasis on safety and compliance. Qualified candidates hold a Class A CDL or CDL permit, have a clean MVR, and can meet DOT requirements.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• DOT regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
• Perform freight handling using motorized and manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck).
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with and follow Dispatch instructions regarding delays, arrivals, equipment problems.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs.
• Where operationally necessary, perform duties of road driver or freight handler.
• Comply with laws/regulations and company policies.
