Job summary

The New School is seeking a Student Success Advisor for the College of Performing Arts/Drama to provide holistic academic guidance to drama students, helping them navigate degree progress and university policies.

You will collaborate with program directors and faculty, maintain student records in Banner/Starfish, and support advising, orientation, and retention initiatives while upholding FERPA and Title IX compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience in student engagement or advising.
• Experience working with dramatic arts programs (acting, directing, playwriting).
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication, and organizational abilities.
• Ability to exercise judgment, critical thinking, and values-based decision making.

Responsibilities

• Provide developmentally appropriate advising to drama students to support academic/artistic progress.
• Maintain student records in Banner/Starfish and other systems accurately.
• Collaborate with program directors and faculty on academic planning and exceptions.
• Support orientation, events, and retention initiatives; promote persistence and engagement.
• Communicate policies regarding degree requirements, transfer credits, and graduation eligibility.
• Ensure FERPA, Title IX compliance and professional discretion.
