Job Summary

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Works as part of the document delivery services team to provideefficient, timely interlibrary loan (ILL)/document deliveryservices (DDS) to Indiana University students, faculty, staff, and research associates located on the Bloomington campus and thoseliving away from campus.
  • Provides verification services for items requested and held onthe Bloomington campus and elsewhere.
  • Selects the appropriate provider for materials not held on theBloomington campus and sends requests (via OCLC, email, web page,U.S. mail) for documents.
  • Processes and notifies requestors of documents received;advises users of status or problems; and provides daily supervisionof student assistants.
  • Responsible for a specific function of the overall DDS/ILLservice but is also responsible for working in any area of theDocument Delivery Services Unit when needed.

General Responsibilities

  • Handles and monitors library materials, including reshelving,processing new material, restocking, and ensuring that allmaterials can be located quickly and easily. Evaluates condition oflibrary materials and may perform repair and preservation oflibrary materials, as needed.
  • Assists faculty, students, and other patrons by answeringphones and handling library-related issues, escalating complexissues to supervisor.
  • Monitors library systems. Creates and updates basic records,maintains automated records, reviewing for completeness andaccuracy.
  • May assist with cataloging new items, performing audits ofoutstanding items, and/or interlibrary loan materialsprocessing.
  • May oversee library department desk and provide training anddirection for student employees working the front desk.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).
WORK EXPERIENCE
Preferred
  • Some experience in library or related field.
  • Interlibrary loan borrowing experience with OCLC and ILLiadsoftware.
  • Supervisory experience, including hiring, scheduling, training,and evaluating.
SKILLS

  • Proficient in English with written and verbal communicationskills.
  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism.
  • Demonstrates time management and priority setting skills.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and tooperate a computer and other standard office productivityequipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periodsof time moving around an office environment and the campus. Theperson in this role must be able to perform the essential functionswith or without an accommodation.

Extended visual exertion in computer use, back and neck exertiondue to movement of heavy materials and computer use. Repeatedlymove about the workspace to communicate with patrons and otherlibrary departments.
