Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Dockworker to load and unload freight safely using forklifts, pallet jacks, or manual methods.

You will read labels, manage shipment locations, and ensure secure, compliant loading of trailers in a fast-paced service center environment. The role requires knowledge of DOT guidelines, ability to operate a handheld tablet, and flexibility to meet customer pickup/delivery schedules.

Qualifications

• Education: High school degree or equivalent.
• Experience: Knowledge of safe and efficient lifting and transporting procedures.
• Knowledge of freight transportation procedures.
• Knowledge of loading techniques (tight and cross loading).
• Familiarity with freight movement forms (shipping orders, manifests, freight bills, reports).
• Ability to monitor shipment locations with dock yard management system.
• Available to work to meet customer pickup/delivery schedules.
• Ability to operate handheld tablet when needed.

Responsibilities

• Load/unload freight on trailers using forklift, pallet jack, or manually per DOT guidelines.
• Apply loading techniques (tight or cross loading).
• Move freight within service center on non-forgiving surfaces.
• Monitor freight locations with the dock yard system.
• Read and interpret shipping labels and forms.
• Secure freight using pallets, straps, or cardboard.
• Ensure trailer loading quality and safety.
• Work with service center personnel under tight deadlines.
