Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Dockworker to safely load and unload freight, ensuring proper securing of cargo and adherence to DOT guidelines. You will operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and manual methods to move goods within service centers.

Attention to safety, ability to read shipping labels and forms, and willingness to work a flexible shift in a fast-paced environment are essential. This role supports on-time deliveries and overall warehouse operations.

Qualifications

• Education: High school degree or equivalent.
• Experience: Must have working knowledge of safe and efficient lifting and transporting procedures.
• Must have knowledge of different loading techniques such as loading tight and cross loading.
• Ability to utilize the dock yard management system permitting consistent monitoring of shipment locations as freight moves through the various terminals.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight on trailers using a motorized forklift, pallet jack or manually in compliance with state and federal DOT guidelines.
• Use various loading techniques, such as loading tight or cross loading.
• Transport freight throughout the service center on non-forgiving surfaces.
• Read and interpret shipping labels and forms used in freight movement.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and other supplies.
