Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Dockworker to support safe loading and unloading of freight and assist warehouse operations.

A strong work ethic, safety commitment, and team orientation are essential as you help uphold our OD family culture and ensure on-time freight delivery. The role requires operating forklifts and pallet jacks, securing freight with airbags and straps, reading shipping labels, and following DOT guidelines.

Qualifications

• Must have working knowledge of safe and efficient lifting and transporting procedures.
• Must have working knowledge of freight transportation procedures.
• Must have knowledge of loading techniques such as loading tight and cross loading.
• Familiarity with forms used in freight movement (shipping orders, manifests, freight bills, reports).
• Ability to utilize the dock yard management system to monitor shipment locations.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight on trailers using a forklift, pallet jack or manually in compliance with DOT guidelines.
• Transport self and freight throughout the service center on non-forgiving surfaces.
• Read shipping labels and complete freight movement documents as needed.
• Hand load, rewrap or stack freight as necessary.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and other supplies.
• Ensure the quality loading of all trailers.
• Frequent contact with service center personnel; meet deadlines.
