Job summary

York County in Yorktown is seeking staff to assist with the Riverwalk Landing Docks operations. The role involves indoor/outdoor work, security and maintenance of docks and adjacent grounds, and helping with setup for events.

You will interact with the public, provide information, collect dockage fees, and maintain records. Requires basic education and boating safety knowledge, plus a Virginia driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily operations of the Riverwalk Landing Docks.
  • Participate in security and maintenance of dock facilities, office, docks, landscaping, and equipment.
  • Interact with the public to provide information and assistance; respond to inquiries and complaints.
  • Maintain revenue records, collect slip rent and utility fees, and manage office supplies.
  • Read and follow safety data sheets (SDS).
  • Transport equipment and supplies; assist with event setup and takedown.
  • Possess a valid Virginia driver’s license and a Virginia Boater safety license (or obtain within two weeks).
  • Work flexible hours including weekends and holidays; pre-employment checks apply.
  • Must be physically able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform moving duties.

Job description

Assist with the daily operations of the Riverwalk Landing Docks.

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Incumbent is expected to work flexible hours and is subject to being called in for work at varied hours and days, to include weekends and holidays.

Assists with the security and maintenance of the dock facilities to include the office, docks, landscaping, refuse collection and/or disposal, and equipment associated with the operation of the docks. Assists with cleanliness and maintenance of the dock’s adjacent grounds; makes minor repairs to equipment and facilities, notifies Dockmaster for other repairs.

Interacts with the public and others to obtain and provide information and assistance in a variety of circumstances; responds to inquiries and complaints; provides information on policy and procedures.

Assists with maintenance, and updates of records of revenue; collects slip rent (dockage), utility fees associated with docks; maintains office supplies and ensures payments of expenses.

Reads and maintains manufacturers’ safety data sheets (SDS).

Transports equipment, furniture and supplies, and assists with the set-up and take down of various events as needed.

Requires any equivalent combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and 1- 2 years of closely related experience.

Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Must possess a valid Virginia Boaters safety license, or ability to complete in first two weeks of employment.

This job is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment checks to include criminal history, background and DMV record checks.

Some knowledge of boating and marina operations.

Some knowledge of industrial custodial and housekeeping methods and practices.

General knowledge of personal computer software applications, such as e-mail and Microsoft office.

General knowledge of the Historic Yorktown area’s major points of interest and providing directions.

Incumbent is expected to work flexible hours and is subject to being called in for work at varied hours and days, to include weekends and holidays.

Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Work often involves heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) of furniture, and carrying of materials, bending, stooping, standing, and walking while performing moving and set-up activities or supply deliveries.
