Job summary

Montgomery Public Schools seeks a Lead ESL Specialist to guide the district’s ESL program and supervise tutors, translators, and staff. The role emphasizes leadership, program development, and compliance with federal and state EL requirements.

The position requires a Master’s degree with ESOL certification, extensive ESL experience, and the ability to collaborate across schools. The role is a twelve-month assignment with responsibilities across multiple campuses.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited university; certification in Educational Leadership or Administration preferred.
• Valid Alabama ESOL certification or equivalent endorsement.
• Minimum of five (5) years of classroom experience and three (3) years as an ESL Specialist.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and provide own transportation to various work locations.
• Ability to meet suitability criteria under Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
• Ability to analyze and evaluate systems, budgets, personnel and data for English Learners in alignment with Title III regulations.
• Ability to collaborate and solve problems as a team member.
• Ability to use technology for communication, data management, and reporting.
• Ability to translate in at least one language other than English is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
• Promotes initiatives to improve English language proficiency and academic achievement of English Learners.
• Provides leadership, coordination, and support for the district’s ESL program.
• Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local requirements and participates in the LEA District Plan.
• Serves as the primary resource and mentor for ESL Specialists.
• Provides guidance and training related to school level EL Committees.
• Tracks academic progress and maintains required compliance documentation for ESL students.
