Job summary

The Jefferson County Board of Education is seeking an ESL Teacher to coordinate the assessment, placement, and instruction of English learners within a designated service area.

This role also serves as a resource to staff through in-service sessions and individual consultations, and trains ESL Instructional Aides in teaching strategies and materials. Collaboration with the ESL Program Supervisor is essential to develop guidelines and compile program data.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Alabama professional educator certificate.
• Certification in English as a Second Language (ESL).
• Minimum of three years successful classroom experience.
• Compliance with Alabama Child Protection Act suitability criteria.
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
• Interpersonal skills and collaboration across varied groups.
• Ability to develop ESL curriculum and programming.
• Proficient use of technology for planning, instruction, data management, and reporting.
• Punctuality and regular attendance.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates support for the school system and its goals.
• Conducts in-service training for staff on ELL strategies and procedures.
• Schedules ESL team meetings for student placement decisions.
• Monitors academic progress of ELL students and advises teachers on modifications.
• Provides ESL instruction to K-12 English Language Learners.
• Uses technology to plan, deliver instruction, and facilitate learning.
• Keeps records and submits mileage/reports as required.
• Maintains confidential student data and program records.
• Attends professional development on ELL programs.
• Maintains confidentiality in line with laws.
• Collaborates with colleagues and participates in committees.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
