Job summary

Montgomery Public Schools is seeking an ESL (English as a Second Language) Teacher to support English Learners across district schools. You will implement instruction to raise language proficiency, collaborate with EL staff, and provide pull-out sessions and classroom interventions.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher, valid Alabama ESOL certification, and the ability to travel between schools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or above from an accredited college or university
• Valid Alabama teacher certification in ESOL
• Ability to travel between schools, as needed

Responsibilities

• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
• Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
• Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request
• Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet student needs
• Implements specialized learning plans, accommodations, or modifications for students as required
• Assesses student progress regularly and provides progress reports
• Assists the EL Coordinator with the creation and implementation of Individualized English Language Plans (I-ELPs) for EL students
• Designs curricular units to advance English language acquisition in pull-out sessions
• Collaborates with regular classroom teachers to design interventions and supports for EL students
• Consults with regular classroom teachers on student progress
• Provides in-service training for faculties on EL topics
• Secures certification for and administers language proficiency screeners and ACCESS 2.0
• Screens incoming students for English language proficiency
• Participates in MTSS meetings and parent conferences as needed
• Maintains timely records on EL students and related documentation
• Makes provision for availability to students and parents outside instructional day when required
• Assists with translation needs and schedules translators as directed by EL Coordinator
• Provides support to EL instructional staff and teachers
• Assists EL Coordinator with inventory and distribution of EL materials
• Attends workshops and staff meetings at assigned school
• Travels to other district schools to provide services or collaborate with staff
• Maintains accurate records as required by law and policy
• Takes precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities
• Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct
• Strives to maintain and improve professional competence
• Dresses and conducts self professionally
• Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees
• Works with colleagues to enhance school climate and academic program
