Job summary

Montgomery Public Schools is seeking an ESL Teacher to coordinate assessment, placement and instruction of English Language Learners across designated schools in the district. This nine-month position requires collaboration with the ESL Program Supervisor and direct work with ESL students and staff.

Responsibilities include in-service training for staff, monitoring student progress, administering placement tests and ACCESS assessments, maintaining student folders, and preparing reports.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Alabama teaching certificate in English as a Second Language (ESL) or appropriate area.
• Previous successful teaching experience preferred.
• Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under relevant Alabama acts.
• Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Effective interpersonal skills with diverse groups.
• Ability to develop and implement curriculum for ESL students.
• Identify and solve problems as a productive team member.
• Use technology to communicate, plan, provide instruction, and manage data/reports.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision and priorities.
• Conducts in-service training for staff on ELL strategies and procedures.
• Schedules ESL team meetings for placement recommendations.
• Monitors academic progress of ELL students and recommends instructional modifications.
• Provides ESL instruction to K-12 English Language Learners.
• Uses technology to plan, provide instruction, and facilitate learning.
• Models innovative use of technology for students and staff.
• Works with ESL Instructional Aides in teaching strategies and materials.
• Keeps records and submits mileage reports as required.
• Submits updates to the Special Services Office regarding ELLs.
• Attends professional development on ELL programs.
• Maintains accurate student folders with assessment data and reports.
• Administers placement tests and ACCESS assessments.
• Assists with evaluation of ESL personnel per policy.
• Maintains confidentiality and demonstrates professional ethics.
• Reports issues and opportunities for improvement to administration.
• Participates in testing environments and ensures test security.
