The Department of Adult Correction, Division of Community Supervision has an exciting opportunity for an energetic, professional Administrative Specialist I to provide fiscal, administrative, and human resources support to the Judicial District Manager and the district employees, consisting primarily of Probation/Parole Officers.
The mission of Community Supervision is to protect the safety of citizens in communities throughout the state by providing viable alternatives and meaningful supervision to offenders on probation, parole, or post-release supervision. The primary goal of Community Supervision is to reach an equal balance of control and treatment for offenders that will positively affect their behavior and lifestyle patterns.
Position works under pressure to meet deadlines for reports, handles inventory and purchasing, , suspense files, and HR functions. Position provides administrative support to the Judicial District Manager and their team, to include scheduling meetings and recording minutes, and screening calls and visitors. Documents prepared may be used in court proceedings or for other official purposes, so concise communication and use of correct grammar and tone are essential. Position also prepares interview-related and onboarding documents, and functions as the health & benefits representative for the district employees. Position will receive and process mail, distribute and file documents both electronically and hard copy, and maintain personnel, fiscal and operations files.
Position will provide HR support in the key areas of:
- Time administration,
- Administering various types of leave to include but not limited to FMLA and Workers' Compensation,
- Employment packages,
- Onboarding documentation and new hire orientation,
- Separations.
Position will provide fiscal support services in the key areas of:
- Inventory control management to include physical inventories of fixed assets
- Office operations,
- Entering requisition and usage orders,
- Verifying state contract items, vendor information, shipments and purchase orders receipts,
- Prepare and review mileage reports, process travel authorizations and reimbursement requests,
- Handle lease agreements.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:
- Proven experience in providing customer service,

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 19,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving the lives and property of its citizens through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. The
Division of Community Supervision (DCS) is responsible for overseeing supervision of adult offenders on probation, parole, or post-release. The DCS mission is to ensure public safety while helping offenders make positive changes and successfully complete their supervision.
DCS collaborates closely with the NC Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission, the court system as well as other state agencies, and community partners, particularly those addressing mental health, substance use, and re-entry issues faced by our returning citizens.
DCS is also responsible for the supervision of offenders who transfer from other states through the Interstate Compact program and has oversight of the Community Service Work Program.
