Job summary

FirstEnergy Corp is seeking a Planning & Protection Engineer to ensure the reliability of Ohio's distribution system. This onsite role serves the FE Ohio territory and excludes Marion, Springfield, and Mansfield locations.

You will conduct planning studies, model networks, perform switching and protection analyses, and prepare load reports while coordinating with internal and external stakeholders. A BS in EE/EE tech and PE or ABET-equivalent is required or plus advanced degree.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited BS in Electrical Engineering or EE technology.
• PE license or equivalent; advanced degree considered a plus.
• FE exam is favorable; strong analytical ability required.

Responsibilities

• Perform power system planning and analysis for distribution reliability.
• Model networks, calculate voltage drop and fault currents.
• Develop relay settings and protective device coordination studies.
• Prepare load study reports and project-related work packages.
• Support storm restoration, interconnection reviews, and customer coordination.

Education

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering / Electrical Engineering Technology

Professional Engineer (PE) License or ABET-equivalent with advanced degree

Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam a plus

Analytical and cross-functional collaboration skills
