Job summary

FirstEnergy is seeking a Planning & Protection Engineer to provide technical expertise for the planning, protection, and reliability of Ohio's distribution systems. The role involves model-based studies, relay settings, and interconnection analysis across FE Ohio service territory, with on-site duties at various service centers excluding Marion, Springfield, Mansfield locations.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related ABET-accredited program is required, PE license or ABET-alternate paths are welcomed.
• 0–5 years of engineering experience is preferred; FE exam is a plus.
• Experience with electrical systems, switching, tagging, and protection is desired.
• Ability to communicate across teams and focus on customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Perform power system planning and analysis for distribution reliability.
• Develop and set protective device coordination and relay settings.
• Prepare load study reports and project work packages.
• Support DCC with outage analysis and storm restoration duties.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and conduct interconnection studies.
• Provide technical reviews for customer distributed generation projects.
