Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA designation is a plus).
• Experience in a Controller, Director of Accounting, or similar senior property accounting leadership role.
• Proficiency and hands-on experience with Yardi software.
• Strong hands-on experience with property accounting cycles, monthly accruals, and RUBS administration.

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee all property accounting operations, including General Ledger management, monthly accruals, prepaids, and journal entries.
• Oversee property billing and revenue management operations, including RUBS calculations and utilities allocations.
• Manage AP and AR workflows specific to multi-family/property portfolios.
• Mentor and develop accounting team members, establishing clear performance expectations.
• Oversee month-end close, financial reporting, and ensure compliance with property accounting standards and internal policies.
• Collaborate with executive leadership to align financial strategy with operational goals.
• Maintain and optimize financial software systems (such as Yardi).
• Monitor cash flow, budgeting processes, and assist with forecasting and annual audits.

Director of Accounting

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Director of Accounting to lead our financial operations. This role will oversee day-to-day accounting functions, ensure financial accuracy, and manage our property accounting portfolio. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in property management accounting, systems expertise, and leadership capabilities to support our continued organizational growth.

This position is onsite 5 days a week in Troy, MI. No remote option is currently offered, and candidates MUST have property accounting experience.

Job Details

Key Responsibilities:

• Direct and oversee all property accounting operations, including General Ledger management, monthly accruals, prepaids, and journal entries.
• Oversee property billing and revenue management operations, specifically managing and auditing Ratio Utility Billing Systems (RUBS) calculations and utility allocations.
• Manage Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) workflows specific to multi-family/property portfolios.
• Manage, mentor, and develop accounting team members, establishing clear performance expectations and daily operational workflows.
• Oversee month-end close processes, financial reporting, and ensure compliance with relevant property accounting standards and internal policies.
• Partner closely with executive leadership, including the VP of Revenue & Operations and the Chief Financial Officer, to align financial strategies with operational goals.
• Maintain and optimize financial software systems (such as Yardi), ensuring accurate data tracking across properties, units, and portfolios.
• Monitor cash flow, manage budgeting processes, and assist with financial forecasting and annual audit preparations.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA designation is a plus).
• Demonstrated experience in a Controller, Director of Accounting, or similar senior property accounting leadership role.
• Proficiency and hands-on experience with Yardi software.
• Strong hands-on experience with property accounting cycles, monthly accruals, and RUBS administration.
• Strong knowledge of property management accounting, multi-entity accounting structures, and financial compliance.
• Exceptional analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
