Job summary

CVS Health is seeking a Lead Director of Software Engineering in Maryland to shape technical strategy for a multi-team organization. You will drive architecture, set standards, and elevate engineering excellence while delivering outcomes at speed in a healthcare context.

You will partner with Product, Data, and health-care leaders to translate business strategy into engineering bets, and champion responsible AI and scalable backend systems across the company.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading large-scale organizations.
• Deep, hands-on foundation in distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and modern backend engineering at scale.
• Proven AI platform ownership with production AI systems, model deployment pipelines, and responsible AI.
• Track record of engineering transformation, migrating monoliths to microservices under business pressure.

Responsibilities

• Drive technical strategy across a multi-team engineering organization (50-150+ engineers).
• Embed LLMs, generative AI, agentic workflows, and ML-powered automation into the engineering lifecycle as production-grade differentiators.
• Own delivery at velocity with accountability for outcomes and results.
• Partner with Product owners, Data Engineers, and health-care leaders to translate strategy into engineering bets.
• Be the technical voice in the room, calling out debt and advocating for the right engineering investments.
