Job summary

CVS Health is seeking a Lead Director of Software Engineering to shape and lead engineering at scale in a healthcare-focused environment. The role demands ownership of delivery, architectural leadership, and collaboration with cross-functional partners to translate business strategy into technical bets.

You will drive AI and modern backend initiatives, overseeing 50-150+ engineers, embedding ML-powered automation and responsible AI practices into production systems while pushing for engineering

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading large-scale engineering organizations.
• Deep, hands-on foundation in distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and modern backend engineering at scale.
• Proven AI platform ownership. Production AI systems deployment, model deployment pipelines, vector databases, RAG architectures, LLM orchestration, inference optimization, and responsible AI principles.
• Track record of engineering transformation: migrating monoliths to microservices and modernizing legacy platforms under business pressure.

Responsibilities

• Drive technical strategy across a multi-team engineering organization (50-150+ engineers), setting architectural standards and excellence benchmarks.
• Embed LLMs, generative AI, agentic workflows, and ML-powered automation into the engineering lifecycle as production-grade differentiators.
• Own delivery at velocity; be accountable for outcomes and ensure teams meet high standards.
• Partner with Product owners, Data Engineers, and Health care business leaders to translate business strategy into engineering bets.
• Be the technical voice in the room, call out architectural debt, push back on infeasible timelines, and advocate for the right engineering investment.
