Job summary

CVS Health is seeking a Lead Director of Software Engineering to shape and execute the technical vision for a large, multi-team engineering organization. You will align business strategy with engineering bets, drive architecture, and raise the bar for delivery at scale.

You will embed AI, ML automation, and advanced backend systems practices, collaborating with product and healthcare stakeholders to deliver high-impact health tech solutions.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading large-scale engineering organizations.
• Deep, hands-on foundation in distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and modern backend engineering at scale.
• Proven AI platform ownership, with production AI systems, model deployment pipelines, vector databases, RAG architectures, LLM orchestration, and responsible AI principles.

Responsibilities

• Drive technical strategy across a multi-team engineering organization (50-150+ engineers), setting architectural standards and reviewing work.
• Embed LLMs, generative AI, agentic workflows, and ML-powered automation into the engineering lifecycle as production-grade differentiators.
• Own delivery at velocity and be accountable for outcomes, not roadmaps.
• Partner with Product owners, Data Engineers, and Health care business leaders to translate business strategy into engineering bets.
• Be the technical voice in the room, calling out architectural debt and advocating for the right investments.
