Job summary

Fischer Foods of New York, Inc. in Columbus, OH is seeking a hands-on Director of Operations to run day-to-day warehouse, inventory, purchasing, route delivery, and fleet management in a small owner-operated food distribution business.

You will lead by example, implement dependable systems, and reduce owner involvement in routine decisions while driving profitability and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of operations leadership, ideally in food distribution or warehousing.
• Experience managing warehouse staff, drivers, routes, inventory, and purchasing.
• Knowledge of food safety, rotation, temperature controls, and handling.
• Proven ability to improve productivity, cut costs, and manage multiple priorities.
• Comfort with ERP systems and routing/business software.

Responsibilities

• Direct purchasing, receiving, storage, picking, packing, shipping, and delivery.
• Maintain inventory accuracy, FIFO, expiration controls, temperatures, sanitation.
• Improve order accuracy, reduce spoilage, and optimize labor and inventory.
• Plan routes, manage driver scheduling, training, and accountability.
• Oversee vehicle maintenance, mileage, fuel use, and fleet costs.
• Control labor, freight, fuel, inventory, and other costs; set KPIs.
• Hire, train, schedule, motivate, and manage operations staff.
• Report performance, challenges, and solutions across teams.
