The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the direction and supervision of nursing staff and activities, ensuring efficiency in meeting departmental goals and objectives. This role involves making administrative decisions based on long-term care policies and nursing standards, and ensuring compliance with nursing practice standards to promote optimal healthcare delivery.
The DON interprets and implements administrative and resident care policies communicated by the VP, Senior Administrator. Responsibilities include interviewing and hiring nursing management and supervisory staff, assigning professional staff, evaluating personnel, and chairing supervisory and nurse manager meetings.
The DON promotes participation in policy formulation, coordinates nursing activities, maintains harmonious relationships with staff, residents, and visitors, and plans staff development programs. The role involves managing nursing staff, analyzing care services for quality improvement, overseeing quality activities, and ensuring integration into the community’s overall quality program.
The DON communicates with senior administration on various matters, assists in compliance with regulatory requirements, manages nursing expenses, and approves invoices. Additionally, the DON oversees infection prevention and control programs, develops policies, leads infection control committees, and ensures staff and resident education on infection prevention principles.
The role also includes collaborating with other departments on occupational health and safety, maintaining documentation, and participating in facility assessments and quality improvement initiatives.
Pay range: $81,681 - $136,136 annually. Category: RN
