Position Overview: Director of Nursing (DON)
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for:
- Direction and supervision of nursing staff and activities to meet departmental goals and objectives.
- Making administrative decisions based on long-term care policies and nursing standards.
- Ensuring compliance with nursing practice standards to promote optimal healthcare delivery.
- Interpreting and implementing administrative and resident care policies as communicated by the VP, Senior Administrator.
- Hiring, assigning, and evaluating nursing management and supervisory staff.
- Leading departmental meetings and coordinating nursing activities across units.
- Fostering positive relationships with staff, residents, visitors, and medical personnel.
- Planning staff development programs.
- Managing and delegating nursing staff responsibilities.
- Evaluating nursing services to improve quality and efficiency.
- Overseeing quality improvement activities and integrating them into the community’s overall quality program.
- Communicating with senior administration on key issues.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant state, federal, and accreditation standards.
- Managing nursing expenses and approving invoices.
Infection Preventionist Duties:
- Completing specialized training in infection prevention and control.
- Developing and implementing infection prevention programs.
- Establishing systems for infection control and reporting.
- Overseeing antibiotic stewardship and infection-related care activities.
- Leading the Infection and Prevention Control Committee.
- Participating in quality assurance and improvement reviews.
- Updating policies and procedures annually or as needed.
- Providing education on infection control principles to staff, residents, and families.
- Ensuring compliance with public health reporting requirements.
- Collaborating with occupational health and safety departments.
- Documenting infection prevention activities.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
- Current RN license in the state of employment.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or equivalent preferred.
- 3-5 years of recent nursing experience with demonstrated supervisory skills.
- Management experience preferred.
- Strong communication, organization, and planning skills.
- Ability to manage diverse activities in a stressful environment.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, lift, and transfer residents as required.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity.
Pay range: $81,681 - $136,136 annually
