Job summary

MISO seeks a bold Director of Software Engineering and Architecture to transform how we design, build, deliver, and operate mission-critical software at scale in Carmel, Indiana. This leader will set the engineering strategy and operating model for the department, champion AI-native practices, and ensure secure, reliable, and high-value software across complex environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; Master's preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive software engineering and architecture experience, with 5+ years in leadership roles.
• Experience implementing and scaling AI-native engineering practices with evolving AI technology.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute a Software Engineering and Architecture strategy aligned with enterprise priorities.
• Set governance, investment priorities, and success metrics for AI-native software delivery across the SDLC.
• Establish architecture standards guiding product and engineering teams from early lifecycle stages.
• Partner with Product Management to align roadmaps with priorities, capacity, dependencies, feasibility, and risks.
• Provide financial and vendor stewardship including budget planning and technology investments.
• Develop and retain high-performing teams, fostering inclusion, learning, and psychological safety.
• Sponsor evolution of enterprise platforms, including agentic AI, CI/CD, SRE, and secure development.
• Balance near-term delivery with long-term resiliency and cost efficiency in modernization.
