Job summary

Midcontinent Independent System Operator, Inc. seeks a Director of Software Engineering and Architecture to transform how we design, build, deliver, and operate mission-critical software at scale.

This leader will set the engineering strategy and operating model for the department, accelerating AI-native practices, strengthening product-centric delivery, and advancing reliability, security, and cost effectiveness.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering and architecture experience in complex organizations.
• 5+ years in leadership roles spanning multi-team tech environments.
• Experience implementing AI-native engineering practices and staying current with AI tech.
• Proven ability to lead transformation of SDLC, DevSecOps, CI/CD, and cloud adoption.
• Strong ability to align product priorities with engineering roadmaps and budgets.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute a software engineering and architecture strategy.
• Set strategy, governance, and investment priorities for AI-native delivery across the SDLC.
• Establish solution architecture standards guiding product and engineering teams.
• Partner with Product Management to align roadmaps with priorities, capacity, dependencies, and risks.
• Provide financial and vendor stewardship for the department.
