Job summary

MISO seeks a bold Director of Software Engineering and Architecture to transform how we design, build, and operate mission-critical software at scale. Lead the engineering strategy, governance, and AI-native practices across enterprise teams.

You will guide modern delivery, modernization efforts, and secure software programs, collaborating with product leadership to align roadmaps with strategic priorities. This full-time role offers impactful scope and a strong compensation package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; Master’s preferred.
• 10+ years software engineering and architecture experience with 5+ years in leadership within complex multi-team tech organizations.
• Experience implementing and scaling AI-native engineering practices.
• Proven track record defining and executing engineering/architecture strategy for complex portfolios.
• Ability to lead, mentor, scale teams, and develop leadership pipelines.
• Experience with outsourced/distributed delivery, including vendor oversight.
• Leadership transformation of SDLC, DevSecOps, CI/CD, cloud adoption, platform engineering, and debt reduction.
• Strong knowledge of modern delivery ecosystems, cloud-native platforms, secure software development, and IaC.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to influence executives, manage budgets and vendors.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute a Software Engineering and Architecture strategy aligned with enterprise priorities.
• Set governance, investments, and success measures for AI-native software delivery across the SDLC.
• Establish solution architecture practices and standards guiding product and engineering teams.
• Partner with Product Management to align roadmaps with priorities and risks.
• Provide financial stewardship including budget planning and technology investments.
• Develop and retain a high-performing department through coaching and succession planning.
• Sponsor evolution of enterprise engineering platforms including agentic AI delivery, CI/CD, SRE, and secure development.
• Set direction for application modernization balancing delivery with resiliency and cost effectiveness.
• Act as a senior technology partner to inform major technology, product, and operational decisions.
