Job summary

Blue Origin in Seattle is seeking a Director of Avionics Hardware to lead the hardware engineering organization for avionics systems on New Glenn and Lunar programs. You will own the full hardware design lifecycle from concept to production, guiding a multi-disciplinary team through design, verification, qualification, and production readiness.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or closely related field.
• 15+ years of progressive experience in avionics or defense electronics hardware development.
• 5+ years of direct people management experience, including managing managers.
• Experience owning hardware through full development lifecycle and manufacturing transition.
• Deep hands-on background in at least two: mixed-signal design, FPGA, PCB layout, or ignition/power electronics.
• Familiarity with environmental qualification programs and MIL-STD/NASA IPC standards.
• Experience managing schedules in fast-paced environments and U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.

Responsibilities

• Own the avionics hardware baseline; serve as authority for design decisions and reviews.
• Lead electrical design for mixed-signal boards, power electronics, and ignition systems.
• Provide direction across FPGA, components, PCB layout, and mechanical packaging.
• Define and improve hardware verification, environmental qualification, and test procedures.
• Review schematics, approve substitutions, and act as final design review authority.
• Coordinate EMA drive electronics and interface with GNC and vehicle systems.
• Identify long-lead risks and drive mitigation to protect schedule.
