Job summary

Blue Origin LLC in Seattle is seeking a Director of Avionics Hardware to lead the hardware engineering organization responsible for designing, qualifying, and delivering avionics systems for New Glenn and lunar applications.

You will own the full hardware lifecycle from concept through production support, directing a multi-disciplinary team of electrical engineers, FPGA designers, PCB layout, and EMA drive electronics engineers.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
• 15+ years of avionics/aerospace hardware development experience.
• 5+ years of direct people management experience leading multi-discipline teams.
• Hands-on background in multiple hardware domains (two of: mixed-signal electronics, FPGA, PCB layout, EEE components, avionics packaging, ignition/power electronics).
• Experience with environmental qualification programs and standards (MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810, IPC-A-610, NASA-STD-8739).
• Experience delivering hardware on complex schedules in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

• Own avionics hardware baseline and act as engineering authority for design decisions and reviews.
• Lead electrical design across boards, power electronics, and ignition systems with compliance to IPC and NASA standards.
• Define and drive hardware verification/qualification strategy and acceptance testing.
• Review schematics, approve component substitutions, and resolve design issues.
• Lead design and qualification of EMA drive electronics and thermal management.
• Coordinate hardware-to-production transition and supplier qualification to protect schedules.
