Job summary

Dean Dorton is seeking an Accounting and Financial Outsourcing (AFO) Director to lead the AFO practice within the Business Consulting Group. You will drive strategy, performance, and growth, coordinating with leadership to deliver scalable, technology-enabled accounting solutions.

You will oversee client delivery, standards, and risk management while shaping the talent pipeline, budgets, and innovation initiatives across locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• CPA, CMA, or another relevant professional credential preferred.
• Ten or more years of progressively responsible accounting, advisory, or professional services experience, including at least five years leading high-performing teams.
• Demonstrated experience with practice leadership, client relationship management, project or engagement delivery, and business development.
• Experience leading a recurring or managed-service delivery model and implementing accounting technology preferred.
• Strong knowledge of outsourced accounting, controllership, financial reporting, and CFO-level advisory services.
• Strong business and financial acumen, including experience managing revenue, profitability, pricing, capacity, and a sales pipeline.
• Executive presence and sound judgment in high-level client interactions, complex engagements, and difficult decisions.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the annual AFO operating plan and budget in alignment with BCG priorities and approved financial targets.
• Own practice performance, including revenue, profitability, realization, utilization, capacity, pricing, pipeline conversion, client retention and satisfaction, employee retention, and other key KPIs.
• Establish scalable delivery models, engagement workflows, staffing practices, and service standards for quality and efficiency.
• Monitor engagement economics and client portfolio; address issues affecting outcomes or performance.
• Lead evaluation and optimization of accounting platforms and AI-enabled tools for delivery and security compliance.
• Create SOPs for data security, onboarding, core processes, quality control, and year-end close; ensure adoption.
