Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Directs all activities of the ADA Services Department, including intake of students requesting assistance and arranging accommodations.
  • Reviews medical documentation supporting requests for reasonable accommodations and coordinates with ADA Services or other departments to provide them.
  • Maintains security and privacy of student medical and disability records.
  • Prepares and manages the departmental budget.

Along with helping our students reach their goals, Pensacola State makes career fulfillment a reality.Job Description:The Director, ADA Services assists the College administration in determining student eligibility for services and arranging for reasonable accommodations to be provided as needed pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504) and other laws related to support of students with disabilities. Reports to the Dean of Students.Duties and Responsibilities:Directs all activities of the college-wide ADA Services Department, including intake of students requesting assistance, review of medical documentation supporting a request for reasonable accommodations, and arranging for such accommodations to be provided by ADA Services or other departments of the College as necessary.Keeps abreast of legislation affecting students with disabilities, including, but not limited to, the ADA and Section 504 regulations.Maintains security measures to protect the privacy of student medical and disability related records and information kept within the Student Resource Center for ADA Services office.Prepares and manages the departmental budget.Provides in-service training programs to faculty and administrators.Supervises support staff and service personnel serving students with disabilities.Works collaboratively with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Testing Centers, and other College departments to address the needs and accommodations of students registered with ADA Services.Assists with accessibility reviews of the website and other items, as necessary.Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications : Graduation with a bachelor's degree in special education, rehabilitative services, education, psychology, or counseling from an institution that holds accreditation recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and approved by the College and three years of professional experience in an academic/school environment. Knowledge of federal and state regulations regarding working with students with disabilities. Successful results of a criminal background check are required.Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of § 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations. Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment .Physical Demands : The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position must be able to lift at least 25 pounds to perform job duties of the campus food pantries.
