Job summary

AHRC Nassau is seeking Direct Support Professionals to provide consistent, compassionate support in Day Habilitation and ICF programs. You will assist individuals with self-care, health, safety, and socialization while promoting independence and community engagement.

Responsibilities include transporting participants, supporting volunteers, and maintaining documentation. A NYS driver's license is required, with renewal per agency policy.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• AMAP/First Aid/CPR/SCIP-R Training preferred.
• Valid NYS Driver License.
• Maintain NYS Driver’s License and remain a qualified driver per agency policy.
• Minimum one year experience working with people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensures safety of program volunteers at sites, community hubs, and volunteer jobs.
• Trains volunteers to perform tasks at primary site and hub locations.
• Acts as second staff support transporting volunteers to and from sites and hubs.
• Acts as liaison between volunteers and site staff.
• Prompts volunteers to interact appropriately with peers and staff.
• Reports volunteers’ satisfaction or concerns to Site Manager.
• Completes all required documentation.
• Promotes agency philosophies and core values at all hubs.
• Ensures safety and reports incidents to Site Manager and AHRC management and NYS Justice Center.
• Monitors mandatory training and maintains certifications (CPR; SCIP; AMAP) per deadlines.
• Performs additional duties as requested by supervisor.
