Job summary

AHRC Nassau is seeking Direct Support Professionals to support individuals in Day Habilitation and ICF programs in a community-based setting. You will help with self-care, health, safety, socialization, and independence, including transporting participants to program sites, volunteer placements, and community activities.

Ideal candidates have a High School Diploma or equivalent, strong communication skills, and a valid NYS driver license.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Good oral and written communication skills.
AMAP/First Aid/CPR/SCIP-R Training preferred.
Valid NYS Driver License.
Maintain a NYS Driver’s License and transfer from out-of-state within 30 days of hire.
Minimum one year experience with people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

Ensures safety of program volunteers at sites and community hubs.
Trains volunteers to perform tasks to the best of their abilities.
Acts as second staff transport for volunteers to sites and activities.
Liaises between site staff and program volunteers.
Prompts volunteers to interact appropriately with peers and staff.
Reports volunteers’ success and concerns to Site Manager.
Completes all required documentation.
Promotes agency philosophies and inclusion.
Ensures safety and reports incidents to AHRC management and NYS Justice Center.
Attends mandatory training and maintains required certifications (CPR; SCIP; AMAP).
Performs additional related duties as requested by supervisor.
