Job summary

AHRC Nassau in Bethpage, NY is seeking Direct Support Professionals to provide ongoing support to individuals in Day Habilitation and ICF programs, assisting with self-care, health, safety, socialization, and independence.

You will serve as a second staff support, transport participants to activities, and promote growth within a community-based setting. The role emphasizes inclusivity and collaboration with diverse teams.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Able to maintain a NYS driver's license and follow agency policy.
• Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensures safety of program volunteers at sites, agency locations, and community activities.
• Trains volunteers to perform functional tasks at primary site and hub locations.
• Acts as second staff support transporting volunteers to and from sites.
• Acts as liaison between volunteers’ job site staff and program volunteers.
• Prompts volunteers to interact appropriately with peers and staff.
• Reports volunteers’ success or concerns to the Site Manager.
• Completes all required documentation.
• Promotes agency philosophies and guiding principles at all sites.
• Ensures safety of volunteers and reports incidents to management and NYS Justice Center.
• Attends mandatory trainings; keeps CPR, SCIP, AMAP certifications current.
• Performs additional duties as requested by supervisor.
