Job summary

Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas is seeking a Direct Support Professional in Virginia Beach to provide direct care and support to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities in their homes. You will work under supervision to help people learn daily living skills and participate in community life.

The role involves assisting with meal planning, budgeting, safety, and medication-related tasks, following PCP and program policies, with on-call shifts and on-site work

Qualifications

• Min of a high school diploma or GED (or IEP) as stated.
• 1 year of experience in the intellectual/developmental disabilities field.
• Medication Administration Certification preferred or required by end of intro period.
• Pass trainings and maintain current CMS or relevant certifications.
• Computer skills required for documentation.
• Clear and professional written and verbal communication.
• Problem solving ability.
• Pass background checks and drug testing requirements.
• Bilingual in any language a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide supports identified by the Person-Centered Planning Team and coordinate with families and teams.
• Assist with daily living activities, including household tasks and planning budgets.
• Support learning of skills to enable independent living and community participation.
• Monitor medication adherence and assist as needed under supervision.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings; ensure program compliance with policies.
