Job summary

Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas is seeking a Direct Support Professional to assist individuals with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities in their homes. You will support daily living skills, safety, and community participation under supervision, using a person-centered approach.

The role involves documentation, safety procedures, and collaboration with the planning team to help people live their best life in their chosen community.

Qualifications

• Min of a high school diploma, GED, and/or IEP.
• 1 year of experience in the field of intellectual/developmental disabilities.
• Medication Administration Certification is preferred, but will be required by end of introductory period.
• Must pass trainings and orientation; CMS trainings may be required.
• Computer skills are required for documentation.
• Written and verbal communication skills must be clear and professional.
• Problem solving ability.
• Pass background checks and drug testing requirements.
• Bilingual in any language is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and supports to people living in their home.
• Assist with daily living tasks including household chores, meals, budgeting, and shopping.
• Support skill development to promote independence and community participation.
• Monitor medication administration and support learning to take medications independently.
• Participate in safety, first aid/CPR as needed.
• Plan and participate in social activities with individuals.
• Document activities in EHR and client files daily.
• Maintain knowledge of VOA Chesapeake & Carolinas policies and procedures.
