Job summary

Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas is seeking a Direct Support Professional to provide direct care and support to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities in their home environments under supervision of the Residential Coordinator. Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of experience in intellectual/developmental disabilities preferred; exceptions may be made with enhanced supervision.
• Medication Administration Certification is preferred, but may be required by the end of the introductory period.
• Must pass trainings and orientation classes; certifications required by CMS or relevant entities.
• Computer skills required for documentation.
• Clear and professional written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Provide supports as identified by the Person-Centered Planning Team.
• Teach and perform household tasks such as cleaning and meal planning.
• Assist individuals to develop skills in daily living per the PCP.
• Monitor medication administration and assist with medication if needed.
• May perform crisis interventions and provide First Aid/CPR.
• Plan and participate in residents' social activities.
• Attend assessments and PCP planning meetings.
• Transport residents and provide mobility training.
• Document activities in EHR and client files daily.
• Prepare food per menu, considering dietary needs and preferences.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings; ensure program compliance.
• Inspect home for safety and report repairs; ensure sanitation and security.
• Monitor visitors and uphold policies.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of VOA Chesapeake & Carolinas policies.
• Work cooperatively with the support team.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
