The Arc Montgomery County in Silver Spring, MD is seeking Direct Support Staff for weekend shifts to help empower adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The role emphasizes safety, daily living support, and community participation, with a focus on individualized, respectful care.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalency or at least 18 years of age and one year of experience
Valid US driver’s license
Effective verbal & written communication and computer skills
Ability to read and write fluently in English
Ability to assist people with activities of daily living
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds with assistance
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing
Must pass a 6th-grade math and reading test in English as required by the Maryland Board of Nurses.

Responsibilities

Provide supports to promote and empower people served in Inclusive Living Services - Community Living to realize personal goals and participate in their communities.
Ensure safety and well‑being; assist people with living at home and personal care.
Supervise and assist with managing homes and personal needs; foster lasting connections and meaningful participation.
