Job summary

The Arc Montgomery County in Maryland is seeking Direct Support Staff to promote and empower adults with developmental disabilities in Inclusive Living Services. You will help residents live fulfilling lives, assist with daily living, and foster meaningful community connections.

Hours include weekend shifts (Saturday-Sunday, 3pm-9pm). The role emphasizes safety, respect, and enabling individuals to participate in activities they choose, with training provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalency or at least 18 years of age and one year of experience.
• Valid US driver’s license.
• Effective verbal & written communication and computer skills.
• Ability to read and write fluently in English and have a good understanding of the English language.
• Ability to assist people with activities of daily living, including personal care.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to withstand prolonged standing or walking and frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing.
• Must pass a 6th-grade math and reading test in English as required by the Maryland Board of Nurses.

Responsibilities

• Provide supports to promote and empower people in Inclusive Living Services - Community Living.
• Assist residents to realize personal goals and participate in community activities.
• Help ensure safety and well-being, supervising and assisting in daily living activities.
• Support residents in managing homes and personal needs and facilitate meaningful participation.
