Job summary

The Arc Montgomery County in Silver Spring, MD is seeking Direct Support Staff to empower adults in Inclusive Living Services. You will promote independence, support daily living, and help residents participate in their communities with respect and dignity.

Responsibilities include ensuring safety, supervising living arrangements, and assisting with personal care while fostering meaningful connections with peers. A High school diploma or GED and a valid U.S. driver's license are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalency or at least 18 years of age and one year of experience
• Valid US driver’s license
• Effective verbal & written communication and computer skills
• Ability to read and write fluently in English
• Ability to assist people with activities of daily living
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds with assistance
• Ability to withstand prolonged standing or walking and frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing
• Must pass a 6th-grade math and reading test in English as required by the Maryland Board of Nurses.

• Create a safe living environment, supervise, and assist people with managing their homes and personal needs
• Assist people to participate in community activities and develop mutual, authentic, lasting connections
