Job summary

Legacy Treatment Services Group is seeking direct care professionals for the Ohana Program, a group home for adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities in New Jersey. You will support Consumers in routines, academics, and community integration, helping them learn independence.

Responsibilities include supervising activities, applying positive reinforcement, and assisting with daily living tasks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or High School Diploma (or equivalent) plus three years of experience with children/adolescents.
• Valid driver’s license in good standing.
• Experience relating to adolescents in a community or group-home setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Relate with adolescents and build rapport to support their independence.
• Attend academic events, medical visits, and community activities with Consumers.
• Teach life skills such as cooking, laundry, chores and daily routines.
• Use positive reinforcement and crisis de-escalation techniques when necessary.
• Assist with bathing, grooming, feeding and daily living tasks.

Job description

This position pays a $2.00 per hour shift differential for hours worked from 11pm Friday through 11pm Sunday for both FT and PT employees.The Ohana Program is a group home in a community setting for adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are looking for direct support professionals to make a positive difference with the Consumers in the program. The goal of each Consumer is to learn independence, which is driven by their Behavior Support Plan. You will work within a diverse population within the special needs community and their families. On a daily basis, you can expect to:Relate with adolescents, understand what they are going through in their lives and build rapportAttend and accompany academic events, shopping, community integration, socialization skills, family reunification, and medical visitsShow adolescents that they can change their lives on their own by giving them directionUse positive reinforcement and other techniques to keep adolescents on the right track and use crisis de-escalation skills when necessaryAssist in teaching life skills, such as cooking, laundry, chores and cleaningGet moving and go outside to play basketball, tennis, hiking, bean bag toss and other activitiesLead by example and have a positive mindsetAssist youth with bathing, feeding, grooming and other daily living skillsAssist with medication administrationHours:Full-time and part-time positions are available.
