Job summary

Becoming Independent is seeking a Direct Support Professional II to work in the Education initiatives - Sonoma Valley program. The role supports individuals in achieving personal goals through community activities, volunteer work, employment, and education.

The DSP II will coordinate instruction, maintain progress, mentor staff, and help develop service plans while ensuring safety and quality in daily operations. Position requires active engagement and reliable transportation in Sonoma, CA.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required; College coursework or related professional experience in Special Education, Rehabilitation, Psychology, or a closely related field is preferred.
• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
• Ability to provide in-home care, transportation, and community services for persons served.

Responsibilities

• Participates with individuals in vocational/volunteer/community activities.
• Assist in establishing and maintaining social connections with others in the community.
• Coordinate and provide instruction to promote skill development and independence including personal care as needed.
• Complete monthly trainings within the provided timeframe.
• Provide shadowing opportunities for new staff.
• Assist with curriculum development, transportation optimization and new hire mentorship.
• Develop and implement service plans centered on the individual's personal choices.
• Record data and write reports per procedures.
• Maintain progress records and write GERs as required.
• Develop and maintain relationships with persons served and staff.
• Transport persons served to community activities and appointments.
