Job summary

Waypoint Maine, Inc. is seeking a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to support residents with intellectual and other disabilities in our community homes.

You will model healthy relationships, communicate effectively, and promote independence while maintaining a safe, respectful environment. The DSP will implement individualized plans, assist with daily living activities, monitor health and safety, document progress, and collaborate with families, guardians and staff.

Qualifications

• Desire to work with individuals with intellectual and complex disabilities.
• Willingness to implement positive behavior support and structured activities.
• Excellent communication with members, families, coworkers and professionals.

Responsibilities

• Develop a rapport with residents and cultivate a safe and supportive relationship.
• Provide support and guidance for members during skills building activities.
• Implement individual treatment plans and positive support plans for members.
• Encourage self-help skill building by supporting daily living activities including meals, cleaning and personal hygiene.
• Mentor healthy eating choices, activities that enhance physical fitness and overall health.
• Transport residents in approved vehicles for activities or medical appointments.
• Exercise sound judgment to ensure safety; notify House Manager of any issues.
• Respect privacy and confidentiality of members.
• Ensure medications are passed safely.
• Manage member funds by recording expenditures.
• Understand and comply with licensing, MaineCare, Person-Centered Planning and Waypoint policies.
• Collect accurate data updates to ISP progress notes and plans daily.
• Follow work schedule with consistent attendance and record hours.
• Follow mandated reporter guidelines.
• Manage agency funds by recording program expenditures.
• Develop and maintain professional relationships with staff and teams.
• Operate as part of a team and be open to feedback.
• Maintain required certifications for DSP position.
• Attend required staff meetings and trainings.
• Demonstrate flexibility to assist in all residential settings.
• Keep residence/program site clean and orderly; perform maintenance as needed.
• Follow safety standards and procedures.
• Alert House Manager to safety/maintenance needs per internal protocol.
• Follow transportation policies and address vehicle maintenance concerns.
• Other duties as assigned.
