Summary
The Direct Support Professional works on an interdisciplinary team that delivers superior quality of service and provides appropriate activities in a safe and healthy environment within the home and community setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists clients with basic living skills and daily personal tasks, including showers, dressing, housekeeping, grocery shopping, meal preparation, and financial budgeting.
- Provides transportation to and from activities and appointments when needed; requires a valid Arkansas Driver's License.
- Maintains good communication via facility logbook and staff meetings regarding clients' needs and progress toward their plan of care.
- Completes all required documentation demanded by FCC, including behavioral reports, incident reports, complaint forms, personal care worksheets, requisitions, and progress reports.
- Follows and maintains necessary documentation and maintenance of records for FTA vehicles and mileage/billing forms in compliance with Medicaid guidelines.
- Reports incidents and emergencies to supervisors or delegated authorities immediately; this is a safety‑sensitive position.
- Assists with the formulation, management, revision, and follow‑through of clients’ Plans of Care and prioritizes safety, health, and security.
- Follows proper medication‑management guidelines and assists with monitoring and documentation of these procedures.
- Organizes and carries out recreational activities.
- Models proper behavior for clients, adhering to FCC’s dress code and professional conduct.
- Maintains FCC facilities, grounds, and vehicles, ensuring cleanliness and preventive maintenance.
- Attends necessary training and continues education.
- Provides proof of liability insurance and maintains it current.
- Might be required to undergo periodic driving tests and demonstrates proficiency in operating passenger vans; may also drive personal vehicles with adequate liability coverage.
- Maintains confidentiality of all information received regarding Friendship Community Care, Inc. and clients, following HIPAA and the company’s non‑disclosure policy.
- Adheres to quality‑assurance procedures, including daily progress note completion, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly record maintenance, and compliance with all funding source requirements.
- Follows the Code of Conduct and Compliance Investigation Procedures taught during new‑employee training.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; or at least two years’ experience working with developmentally disabled individuals.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple correspondence.
- Ability to present information effectively in one‑on‑one and small‑group settings.
- Mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide, compute ratios and percentages, and interpret bar graphs.
- Reasoning ability: apply commonsense understanding to instructions in various formats.
- Physical ability to use hands, stand, walk, reach, sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
- Vision requirements: close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to work in a moderate‑noise environment.
Physical Demands
The role requires frequent use of hands, standing, walking, reaching, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and tasting or smelling. The employee may need to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally and must meet visual acuity requirements.
