Position Summary
The Direct Support Professional works on an interdisciplinary team that delivers superior quality of service and provides appropriate activities in a safe and healthy environment within the home and community setting.
Core Responsibilities
- Assist clients with basic living skills and daily personal tasks including showers, dressing, housekeeping, grocery shopping, preparing and planning meals, and financial budgeting.
- Provide transportation to and from activities and appointments as needed, requiring a valid Arkansas driver’s license.
- Maintain effective communication through facility logbook, staff meetings, and other appropriate means regarding clients’ needs and progress toward their plan of care by the end of each shift.
- Accurately complete all FCC‑required documentation such as behavioral reports, incident reports, complaint forms, personal‑care work sheets, requisitions, maintenance forms, progress reports, monthly attendance logs, and other required documentation.
- Follow and complete necessary documentation and maintenance of records for FTA vehicles and maintain all mileage/billing forms in compliance with Medicaid guidelines.
- Report incidents and/or emergencies to supervisors or authorized authorities immediately.
- Assist in the formulation, management, revision, and follow‑through of each client’s plan of care.
- Follow medication‑management guidelines and assist in monitoring and documenting these procedures.
- Organize and carry out recreational activities for clients.
- Act as a role model by maintaining good physical appearance and adhering to FCC's dress code.
- Treat clients and their families with dignity and respect; represent FCC’s mission in all activities.
- Assist with maintenance of FCC facilities and grounds, ensuring cleanliness and order.
- Assist with regular preventive maintenance and cleanliness of FCC vehicles.
- Attend necessary training and continue education.
- Provide proof of current liability insurance.
- Possibly undergo periodic driving tests and demonstrate proficiency in operating a motor vehicle, including passenger vans.
- Use personal vehicle for transport duties, maintaining adequate liability coverage.
- Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with Friendship Community Care Non‑Disclosure Policy and HIPAA policies.
- Adhere to FCC’s Code of Conduct and Compliance Investigation Procedures.
Qualifications
Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED; or at least two years of experience working with developmentally disabled individuals. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Language Skills
Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings to customers, clients, and employees.
Mathematical/Computer Skills
Perform basic arithmetic (add, subtract, multiply, divide), compute rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Demands
Use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear. Frequently stand, walk, reach, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. May lift or move up to 100pounds. Requires close, color, and depth vision and the ability to adjust focus.
