SUMMARY
The Direct Support Professional works as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide high quality services and appropriate activities in a safe, healthy environment within home and community settings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist clients with basic living skills and daily personal tasks, including showers, dressing, housekeeping, grocery shopping, meal preparation, and financial budgeting.
- Provide transportation to and from activities and appointments as needed; a valid Arkansas driver’s license is required.
- Maintain good communication with staff via facility logbook, staff meetings, and other appropriate means regarding clients’ needs and progress toward their care plan by the end of shift.
- Accurately complete all required documentation (behavioral reports, incident reports, compliance forms, personal care worksheets, requisitions, maintenance forms, progress reports, monthly attendance logs, and other forms as required by FCC).
- Follow and complete all necessary documentation and maintenance of records for FTA vehicles, maintaining mileage/billing forms in compliance with Medicaid guidelines.
- Report incidents and/or emergencies to supervisors or delegated authorities immediately. This is a safetysensitive position.
- Assist in formulating, managing, revising, and following through on clients’ care plans to ensure treatment is carried out and health, safety, and security are prioritized.
- Follow proper medication management guidelines and assist in monitoring and documenting medication procedures.
- Organize and carry out recreational activities for clients.
- Model positive behavior for clients through appropriate physical appearance, adherence to FCC dress code, and professional conduct.
- Treat clients and their families with dignity and respect and represent FCC’s mission.
- Assist in maintenance of FCC facilities, grounds, and vehicles; keep them clean and orderly.
- Attend necessary training and pursue continuing education.
- Provide proof of liability insurance and maintain it current.
- Might be required to undergo periodic driving tests and demonstrate proficiency with motor vehicles, including passenger vans; may be asked to use a personal vehicle for participant transport, maintaining adequate liability coverage.
- Maintain confidentiality of all information related to Friendship Community Care, Inc. and its clients, complying with the Non‑Disclosure Policy and HIPAA.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- Or two+ years of experience working with developmentally disabled individuals.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Language Skills
- Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Write simple correspondence.
- Effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings to customers, clients, and coworkers.
Mathematical / Computer Skills
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Compute rates, ratios, and percentages; interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
- Apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The role requires frequent use of hands to handle objects, tools, or controls; talking and hearing. Employees may need to stand, walk, reach, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally, employees must lift and/or move up to 100pounds. Vision ability required includes close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
